How hiring works in Kuwait

Private-sector expat employment runs on the Article 18 work visa, sponsored by the employer and tied to a work permit issued by the Public Authority for Manpower. Government and oil-sector jobs (KOC, KNPC, KPC) hire through their own portals and often through contractors. Kuwaitisation quotas push nationals into administrative and banking roles, so expat demand concentrates in engineering, healthcare, oil and gas services, education, construction, retail management and IT.

Documents you will be asked for

• Degree certificate attested by your foreign ministry and the Kuwaiti embassy.
• Experience certificates from previous employers.
• Police clearance and a medical examination after arrival.
• For regulated professions, a Kuwait Society of Engineers registration or Ministry of Health licence.

Mentioning "degree attested" and "KSE registered" on the CV moves you ahead of applicants who have not started.

CV format

• One or two pages, English, reverse chronological.
• Status line under the header: nationality, current location, visa type (18 transferable / 22 dependent / outside Kuwait), notice period.
• Experience bullets with KWD values, plant capacities, project sizes, student numbers or patient loads.
• Skills matched word-for-word to the ad, including software and standards (ASME, API, IFRS, Oracle, SAP).
• Add Arabic proficiency level — customer-facing and government-linked roles ask for it.

Where to apply

Company portals for KOC, KNPC, KIPIC, Zain, NBK, Agility and Alghanim Industries; boards such as Bayt, Naukrigulf, GulfTalent and LinkedIn; and licensed agencies for healthcare and construction. Treat any offer that arrives by WhatsApp and asks for money as fraud.

Offer checklist

Kuwaiti offers are quoted monthly in KWD — a small number that represents a large amount, so compare carefully. Confirm accommodation or allowance, transport, annual ticket, health insurance, indemnity (end-of-service) calculation, leave days, and whether family visa sponsorship is allowed at your salary level, since there is a salary threshold for dependants.
