Why Qatar is worth targeting

Qatar is small, wealthy and concentrated: a handful of large employers drive most hiring — QatarEnergy, Qatar Airways, Hamad Medical Corporation, Ooredoo, Qatar Foundation, Ashghal, and the contractors and consultancies attached to them. Because the market is concentrated, direct applications to those career portals outperform job boards more than anywhere else in the Gulf.

Labour-law changes you should know

Since the 2020 reforms, most workers no longer need an exit permit to leave the country, and the NOC (No Objection Certificate) requirement to change employers has been removed for the majority of private-sector jobs. There is also a non-discriminatory minimum wage plus mandatory food and accommodation allowances when not provided. Practical effect: switching jobs inside Qatar is far easier than it used to be, so applying while already employed there is realistic.

• Certifications matter: UPDA/MMUP engineer registration, QCHP licensing for healthcare, NEBOSH/IOSH for safety, PMP for project roles. If you have started the process, write "UPDA application in progress".

Contract checklist before you sign

Confirm in writing: basic salary and allowances split, accommodation provided or allowance amount, transport, annual ticket for you and dependants, health card and insurance, annual leave days, end-of-service gratuity basis, and whether the contract is fixed term.
